Package: pppupd (0.23-6)

Keeps a ppp connection alive

PPPupd, is a simple daemon which maintains a dialup PPP connection. PPPupd is able to:

+ Execute a redial script, should the connection drop.

+ Send out periodic pings to keep a connection up, which might
be disconnected by unruly ISP's who kick their well paying
members off, after a predetermined number of minutes of
       inactivity.

+ Send logs to stdout, a log file, or syslog, or all three.

PPPupd's real strength lies in the ability to configure it easily. Upon startup, pppupd will read the contents of a configuration file (pppupd.cf by default) and execute scripts, ping, or whatever accordingly.

Note: ppp itself has some of the same features so you may want to look into that first before installing another daemon. However if ppp's persistant features don't work for you (they don't for me) pppupd might be useful.
